On those chilly fall evenings when you don’t want to do anything but curl up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and a warm book, the mind often wonders what else to do to pass the time. Looking into activities around the Great Bend area, we’ve found some activities just for you!

Long Pumpkin Patch, located at HWY 281 & NE 30 Road, has many fun family events during the month of October. Every year, there is a corn maze, a corn stomp pit, gourd launcher, and so much more! Long Pumpkin Patch is open every Saturday and Sunday until Halloween.

Calista Long, a sophomore at Great Bend High School, is the daughter of Roger and Dana Long, owners of Long Pumpkin Patch. She helps run the pumpkin patch every year.  “The corn maze was really fun, but it was a really hot day,” said Senior, Ashton Gray.

Throughout the city of Great Bend, many houses set up Halloween decorations. One house in Particular stands out. At the corner of Madison and Broadway, there are over 100 halloween inflatable halloween decorations. It has been a main attraction for trick-or-treaters for years. This house has even attracted attention from KSN news!

In Hoisington, there are multiple haunted houses. Of the multitude, Haunted Heights is the most popular. It is located at 154 South Main. It is open on October 15, 16, 23, 24, 30, and 31. From years past, students have reported tons of screams and fear while going through the annual haunted house.

Also, every October, the Brit Spaugh Zoo holds the annual Zoo Boo. Many Great Bend High students and clubs are involved in different things throughout the zoo. There are always multiple inflatables, light settings, and a lot of candy! This year, Zoo Boo will be held on October 24, at Brit Spaugh Park starting at 6:00. Hope to see you there.

If those are not good enough ideas, then there is always football. “I like to watch football and wear sweaters in the fall,” said sophomore, Alyssia Strickland.

Great Bend High School students can enjoy a multitude of activities throughout the fall season.
