Last Tuesday, the Great Bend high school competed in WAC which is what they waited for since late August. After all the marching bands played across the field, the drum lines from each school came onto the field and played their cadences. The end of WAC consisted of all of bands finding out what place they got in their category, and what their rating was. The Great Bend High School band got a rating of 2 at WAC; there was a total of 5 bands competing. Every section in the Great Bend Marching Band has a section leader. The section leader’s job is to help everyone do better. “I think that the band did really well,” said Matt Phillips section leader for the trombones. Like any sport or activity, when you’re finished you can always find things that you can improve. Head Band Director Mark DeWald said “Well as we perform you constantly strive to make improvements even though we had an excellent performance there’s always little things like marching in step and tuning.”
