The Great Bend High School girls’ tennis team is back from summer! Things are different from last season. The team has new coaches and new players. Dustin Weeler is the new head coach and Daniel Leech is his assistant coach. The team has changed as well. They lost three seniors from last year. This year, the squad has a total of twenty-one players, eight of them seniors.

Last year, Macy Moyers placed third at state with her doubles partner, Morgan Francis, who is now playing tennis for Baker University. This year, Moyers, a senior, is playing singles. She is on track to be the third winningest player in GBHS history.

Seniors Carly Boyd and Taylor Huslig are playing together for their fourth year. Last year, they lost in the first round of regionals. The girls are hoping to change that this season. Boyd says, “We are going to practice hard and put in extra hours to make it to state. Our ground strokes and volleys are good, but they need to get better because our competition is tough.”

The varsity team has a home meet on September 8th and 12th, as well as WAC on October 5th. Head to the tennis courts at Veteran’s Park and cheer on the team!
