Changes in Girls Golf Program Bring Hope

Changes have been made for this season’s girls’ golf team. Last year, five of the seven girls graduated, leaving only two returning golfers for this year. The team also has eight beginners.

The team has a new head coach as well. Coach Travis McAtee was the assistant coach last spring for the boys’ golf team. This is McAtee’s 25th year coaching.

Coaching different skill levels can be challenging. “…Beginners need more repetition with drills while more experienced players may need more work with course management and mental aspects of the game,” said McAtee. Right now, McAtee is starting off by coaching the basic fundamentals of golf.

Last year’s team finished 4th in the WAC and 2nd at regionals, qualifying for state. State is always the goal for the team, they just have to get to the month of October first.
