My time at Great Bend High School has brought many memories, good and bad. Freshman year, the seniors at the time told me that high school would fly by. At the time, I thought they were kidding, but I came to find out it was true.
My four years were a blur of homework, practices, and work. In between all of that, I made great memories with my best friends. I never really had any free time, but it was worth it.
Some of my favorite times at school were pep assemblies, Kayettes, and running cross country. I love pep assemblies because what’s better than showing school spirit while being with your friends? I love Kayettes because I learned that helping others can be really fun. Finally, I love cross country because of my teammates who became like family to me. It saddens me that my running career is officially over after running for ten years.
My recommendation to you is to be involved as much as you can. My freshman and sophomore year, I wasn’t very involved so I don’t remember much of those years. I started being more involved my junior year and that is what made high school memorable for me. Sure, I was busy all of the time, but I don’t regret my decision. I was involved in Kayettes, NHS, and FBLA.
In the fall, I will be attending Washburn University. It’s hard to believe that in a few short months I’m going to be leaving behind everything I know and stepping out of my comfort zone. I won’t see my parents and friends every day. I won’t know exactly where I am going without a GPS. I am going to be beginning a fresh start.
So, farewell GBHS. Thank you for an unforgettable four years. It’s been real.
