The games must go on: Football

As most students and staff know, at the end of last year, our football coaches Tyler Manwarren and Tony Crough moved on from Great Bend High School and their coaching positions. Although the two coaches will be dearly missed, the games must go on. This year we’re introducing Mr. Cody Carlson, and Mr. Erin Beck. They will be proudly taking on the positions of coaching our panther football team.

Cody Carlson is from Eudora, Kansas. After high school he moved on to Northwest Missouri State University and majored in physical education. He came all the way from Independence, Missouri where he coached and Truman High school and taught strength and conditioning at Pioneer Ridge Middle School. This year aside from his football, basketball, and track and field coaching positions, he also took on the role of supervising our in school suspension classroom. The one thing above all that Carlson is looking forward to this school year is “seeing those stands packed with crazy Panther fans ready for some Friday Night football.

Erin Beck is from Claflin, Kansas. After graduating high school he attended Washburn University where he met his wife, Cindy. Together they have four children, one of which is a newborn, born shortly before the first game of the season! Before moving to Great Bend, Beck spent the last three years coaching football and teaching at Truman High school (alongside Mr. Carlson) in Independence, MO. Before that, he coached three years of football/basketball here at GBHS! So, this isn’t his first run on Panther turf. This year, coach is most excited for football season which is underway already. He went on to say he’s really enjoyed being around the kids and he loves to see them get better each and every day.

So far the season is 3-0 and tomorrow, homecoming is very anticipated. Good luck coaches!
