The games must go on: Basketball
December 21, 2016
If you’re unaware, this school year the middle school has a new strength and conditioning teacher that doubles as our new head basketball Coach after Coach Batten moved onto Pratt after the end of last school year. The new Coach’s name is Tim Brooks! Coach Brooks is from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge city. Before coming to GBHS, Mr. Brooks previously taught at Cimarron, Dodge City, and Manhattan. He says the reason he chose to move to Great Bend and coach here is because he knew our school has a tradition of pride and athletic success.
As for basketball, Coach is most excited for developing a consistent unselfish, tough and smart style of play with the team, and getting back on the court! During practice the team works on all components of the game and they want to get better every day and grow as a unit. “We’re working our tails off!”. So far the team has received tremendous support from the community and school system, Mr. Brooks said the home crowd was awesome in the fall and they show wonderful school pride. “Bring it to every home game!”
“Our hopes for this season are to improve and have a successful conference season, a good showing at the mid season tournament, and compete to our best abilities at substate!”
