In an article in the 1975 GBHS Panther Tales, it discussed  how mathematics was a difficult subject for students. No matter how good you are with numbers there are times when math is a hard subject to tackle, a reason on why math can be so hard according to the 1975 article is because, “if you miss a basic part at the beginning of your schooling, all hope of understanding more advanced skills are lost.” It’s a good thing to learn basic math, without it your life will be tough.  For example, trying to figure out a percentage of a product that’s on sale or filling out an important tax form. If you are interested on how you can improve on your math skills, you can practice at home, go to PEP before or after school where there always are teachers on duty that can help you, or ask your teacher. Many students have different ways in coping with hard math problems, Annie Mills said, “When I am struggling with math the most effective thing for me to do is take a break from it and come back later. Many times I get stuck on one way to do a problem and cannot see past it once it does not work. Giving it a break usually allows me to reevaluate the problem and think of other solutions.” Though many students see math as a waste of time others see math as their strongest subject or have something to do what they want to pursue later in life. Teachers though always have a positive outlook on math,Courtney  True, a math teacher at GBHS said, “I believe math is important because, it is EVERYWHERE. No matter what profession or hobby people are doing there is going to be some sort of math involved even if it is basic calculations. Students can get better with their math by just practicing. The more practical the application is the more likely the students will understand and engage in problems.” No matter what math is a valuable subject to learn.
