FBLA 2019 State Competition
April 9, 2019
Last week the GBHS Future Business Leaders of America members went to Topeka for three days to compete in State Competition. This three day trip consisted of not only testing, speaking, and presentation events, but also traveling around Topeka and having fun. One thing that the FBLA members got to do this year is tour the State Capitol. “I liked the enthusiasm that the tour guide had, it made it more interesting and fun” said Grace Dougherty. Unfortunately no members made it to national competition this year but two members came close. Chloe Gibson placed 5th place in business communications and Skylar Fletcher also placed 8th place in public speaking. “This was only my first year in FBLA, and I wasn’t expecting make it onstage. So many people at the conference had taken that test, so when they called out my name as one of the top ten in the event, I was stunned. Although I was one place away from qualifying for nationals, hearing all the friends I made this year in FBLA cheer is worth more to me than a trip to San Antonio” said Chloe Gibson. Even though no one made it to national competition this year the next few years are looking good due to the fact that there are so many younger members. Competitions like these are learning processes. Every year where one team misses the mark another team can come and learn from their mistakes and make it one step closer to state and one step closer to nationals. Many people think that FBLA is only for people who want to go into business which isn’t true. From graphic design to health care administration FBLA has something for everyone.
