GBHS Blood Drive
March 25, 2021
We Want To Suck Your BLOOD! No literally we want to suck your blood, but for a good reason. On Wednesday March 31st, Kays will host their annual Great Bend High School blood drive. Donations times and additional information are located outside the door of room 203. If you are 16 or 17, then you will need permission slip to be signed from a parent of guardian, 18 years or older do not need a permission slip.
Kays Instructor Karen Clark describes the impact that COVID has had on blood donations. It “has forced many blood drives to be cancelled.” she said. “Kays actually did not get to hold their last year because it was supposed to happen the week after Spring Break when all the school buildings were closed.”
Why is this so important? According to NBC, 17 million people had blood transfusion in 2013. These transfusions are critical for many patients, and if they don’t get the blood, they can suffer from serious conditions or even death. When the younger generations decides to donate blood, they are most likely to donate blood in the future.
Great Bend High School sophomore Madison Smith knows a thing or two of how important blood donations are, “My mom has had blood transfusions that have saved her life” she said “she wouldn’t be here without them.” Smith encourages all eligible GBHS students to join her in donating blood on March 31st.
