How to Make Studying More Fun

We all know that studying can sometimes get stressful. Forcing yourself to learn information when you would rather just be laying in bed watching a movie. But we still do it because we want a good grade. I’m going to give you some tips on how to make studying less dreadful. So let’s get into it.

A great thing to try is listening to music. Now this is not for everyone because some people can’t multitask. This is why I suggest listening to music that doesn’t have any lyrics. According to Oxford, you can even use music to help you remember. When you listen to a song multiple times, you start to remember the lyrics. You can turn the material you are studying into your own song.

The next thing I would recommend is using online sources. There are so many websites online you can use to enhance your studying. This could include quizlet or kahoot. There are many more sites out there as well, you just have to do more exploring. The internet has expanded so much over time giving us more access to these helpful resources.

Another tip I have is for visual learners. For me, I get bored reading the same thing over and over again to try and learn. A great tip to conquer this is adding illustrations. In your notes, you can draw little pictures to help you understand each topic or terms. You could even take this further by adding posters or flashcards with illustrations. Dru Penka, a senior at Great Bend High school, quoted “I like to use flashcards that I make on my own and working with a group of my peers to memorize and study”.

Next, a great way to make you want to learn the material is rewarding yourself. There are many different ways to do this. If you get the grade you were hoping for on the test, you can go to the movie with your friends to celebrate. You could also break this down smaller and try giving yourself a piece of candy after every five terms or get a 15 minute break if you study for an hour. There are many different ways you can reward yourself to give you encouragement to do the work.

Another thing I have found helpful is changing up where you study every once in a while. Putting yourself in a room with other people or tv can be a large distraction while trying to learn. If you limit these distractions, you can get done sooner to where you can do the things you actually want to do. You could also be someone who doesn’t get easily distracted. In this case, you could try going outside to enjoy the fresh air or go to a restaurant nearby and sip on your favorite drink while you learn.

The last tip I’m going to give is study with other people. This can be distracting if you both aren’t  dedicated to learning so make sure to choose the right people. This can be really helpful because you aren’t in it alone. With this, you could compare your notes as well. If you miss a term, you can see if they got it. Another thing is if you aren’t sure of something, you could ask your friend to see if they know. Then, when you know your material better, you can quiz each other to get a feeling of what it would be like in the actual test. Mrs. Jean, a teacher substitute, had lots of advice for what she found made studying easier and more entertaining. She quoted “I recommend studying with a friend or closing off in your bedroom”.

These were just a couple ways to get you to not hate studying. There are many things you can try to make it more enjoyable. You can find more information like I did on Oxford-Royale. I hope you can  use this information to help you in your future studies.
