Emma Haag, Author

If you are anything like me, you love to read. And one of my favorite genres is Fantasy. So, lets get into some of the best fantasy books of 2022.

A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Mass

This book was originally published on May 5, of 2015; but thanks to “booktok”, it has recently had a spike in readers. This story follows a huntress named Feyre and how she navigates her new life after being kidnapped by her enemy and taken to the Fae Realm. Thus begins the enemies-to-lovers trope that most of us all love.

The Cruel Prince – Holly Black

This story follows Jude, who was seven when her parents were murderer and she and her 2 sisters were stolen away to live in the High Court of Faerie. Now, 10 years later Jude wants nothing more that to belong here, despite her mortality. Jude wants to win a place at the Court but in doing so she must defy Prince Carden, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King. With the hint of betrayal in the nation, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters and Faerie itself. This books contains the epitome of the enemies-to-lovers trope.

The Inheritance Games – Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This book follows Avery Grambs, an inherently smart girl, who finds out she has inherited a fortune from a man she has never met, Tobias Hawthorn. In order to receive her inheritance, Avery must move in to the secret-passage filled Hawthorn House. Unfortunately, Hawthorn House is occupied by the family Tobias Hawthorn jus disposed. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorn is convinced she is a con-woman and is determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved.

Shatter Me – Tahereh Mafi

This book was published on November 15, 2011. This story follows a young girl named Juliette Ferrars, a 17 year old whose touch paralyzes and kills, taking living organisms’ energy. Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. Outside of the asylum, disease are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds no longer fly, and the clouds are the wrong color. The survivors are now whispering war and The Reestablishment has changed their mind about Juliette. Now she has to make a choice. Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

“I personally read Shatter Me after the book tok trend without realizing it. I had read it and realized how amazing it truly is; with so many twists and turns, you never know what’s going to happen next or who will be the next MC.” said Great Bend High School freshman Hannah Hopkins.
