Straight Outta Compton was the most viewed movie during the summer of 2015. It was released in theaters on August 14. If you were one of the few who did not go see it, here’s a little taste of the movie.

The movie is about the lives of famous hip hop rappers who made it big, despite coming from and being raised in a violent society in Los Angeles, California. This place is called Compton. Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy E, Mc Ren, and DJ Yella were trying to get their music out into the world so people could know how it was during their time in Compton. This movie takes place in the 1980’s, when these famous rappers were young and starting to do what they love, rap about their reality of life in the hood.

The way they revolutionized the music of hip hop, took them a lot of effort. They were all judged on what they rapped about and the way they looked. At that time, mid 1980’s, there was so much gang violence in Compton. People thought that these rappers were all about violence, drugs, drinking, and everything else that represents the streets. The only two that were actually in a gang were Mc Ren adn DJ Yella.

The police in the 1980’s were really stereotypical and racist towards the people and how they dressed, looked and the color of their skin. That was one of the problems that they had to face and overcome with society in Compton.

Some didn’t go watch it, but senior Abby Stiner said, “I enjoy their music and I would like to see how their lives were when they were trying to make it as rappers.

“I like the movie because it shows the career of N.W.A. and how it slipped,” said senior Jose Hernandez.

“I didn’t like the ending because it made me tear up a little, but I won’t admit I cry because thugs don’t cry. I enjoyed the scene when a rapper they hired quit, so they needed someone to rap their song, so Eazy E volunteered and his voice kept cracking up,” said senior Morgan Kottas.

This movie is rated R, please get parents permission to view Straight Outta Compton.
