Panthers Wreck Redskins Homecoming
September 29, 2015
Friday, September 25th proved to be a long wet disappointing night for the Wichita North Redskins. Not only did the big game get rained out, the Great Bend Panthers proved victorious on the field. The Panthers jumped out to early lead when Jacob Murray landed his first two touchdowns of the game. Following, Carlos Franco got a PAT kick in holding Great Bend in the lead at 7-0 with 8:45 remaining in the first quarter. Shortly after Wichita North got in a fake punt and the extra point kick was blocked, keeping Great Bend in the lead a 7-6. Next, Great Bend scored an 11 yard run ran by Murray, with Franco completing the extra point, which made the score 14-6.
With 8:48 left before halftime, Valgene Jones fumbled a pass from Murray and ran it 81 yards to score, but the Panthers still led at halftime, 14-12. No scores were made in the third quarter, but a minute or so into the fourth, Cal Marshall scored a three-yard touchdown, followed by Fanco completing the extra point kick, making the score 23-12. The 4:48 remaining of the game, Murray completed 6 passes, and Marshall carried the ball 19 times, but no scores were made, leaving the final score at 23-12 with a Panther lead.
Cal Marshall said post game, “It was an extremely fun game because we got to play in the rain, and the whole team was just jacked and ready to come out and win the game after halftime. They didn’t score the second half and I think it was because of our mentality. We loved the close game, pressure, rain, and we thrived because of it.”
