October is coming to an end, the ACT is sneaking up, FAFSA opened up, and scholarship deadlines are close. This can cause students a lot of stress, which can ultimately lead to senioritis. Senioritis is characterized by the decline in motivation or performance of students in their senior year. Many seniors across the nation suffer from this. Though many see this as a small joke, students should take this seriously. Senior Katelyn Scherer said, “Yes, I do believe senioritis is a real thing.” Senioritis can affect how you perform on tests, quizzes, and projects which can, make your grades go down. This may affect college acceptances and financial aid but, for those who are worried don’t be, the cure for senioritis is simply motivation. Senior Valeria Castillo said “A way I get motivated is thinking that this is my last year and that I need good grades to get a high education with honors that’s something I’ve always looked forward to and I want to accomplish that.” Now here are a couple of ways you can stay motivated throughout the year:

  • Use a planner

A planner, notebook, calendar, are all great systems to use where you can physically write in all your months due dates. The more you do this, the faster it’ll become a habit.

  • Split  things up

To break something up is just to split it up. For example, let’s say you have to read 80 pages of your book by a certain date, well, you can split things up and read 40 pages on one day and 40 the next. By doing that you won’t feel as stressed out of trying to complete all 80 in one day.

  • Set goals

If you write your goals somewhere they will stay more solid and you’ll feel more inclined to stick to them. If you start lacking motivation look back at them for a boost of encouragement!

  • Stay organized

The more you stay organized the faster you can find your assignments and stay less stressed.

  • Stay positive

Let’s say you got a bad grade on a quiz, it’s okay! We all fail at times, this doesn’t mean you’re a bad student. Study harder for the next quiz and you’ll do better! If you keep a positive mindset throughout things nothing can stop you!
