Thursday, October fifth, was an exciting night for the Great Bend Panthers Volleyball team as Macy Nachtigal reached her 1,000th career dig. Just to clarify, a dig is when a player on one side of the net is attempting to pass a ball to the other side of the court to keep it from hitting the floor.
Head Panther Volleyball Coach, Shelly Duvall, said Macy is, “One that any coach would want on their team.”
She’s played Libero, which is the defensive player in the back row, for the past four years and is “extremely talented, hardworking, and focused,” Duvall said.
The Panther Volleyball team of 10 Varsity players is going on 30 wins and 4 losses.
Two of those losses include their setback on Tuesday, October second, of two matches Duvall said, “They shouldn’t have lost.”
“They came out on Thursday though, ready to go. We’re hitting the peak of our season where we need to be,” Duvall said.
They have played against numerous WAC teams and haven’t lost to one yet, which currently puts them in the lead of the WAC tournament. This year’s volleyball team is extremely talented and are successful in working as a team.
Duvall explained how the senior leadership on the team is great and how they continue showing the underclassmen the right example. The Panthers will be hosting substate this weekend at 2:00pm and the volleyball girls plan on celebrating with a dance party if they win WAC.
