Thursday, April 11th, GBHS’s track team had a meet taking place at Wichita State Cessna Stadium.
Freshman varsity runner Teah King is competing in the 3200 (2 mile) this season and has a goal to break her personal record of under 12 minutes in the 2 mile.
During this track meet, King ran a new personal record (PR) of 12:14 and placed 4th.
King said, “I just want to try to PR.”
In track, PR’s are important. They motivate you to reach your goal. Some athletes’ goals are throwing or jumping a certain distance, some are how high they can pole vault, and some are how fast they can run. PR’s are also good sources for documenting your gradual progress. It’s always good to see what you started at and how you’ve improved.
Sophomore varsity thrower Conner Holladay is competing in shotput and discus. Holladay’s goal is, “to hit 130ft on discus.”
Not being the proudest of this last meet, Holladay said he can “throw better” next time.
Improving is a continuous process. Improving helps yourself get better by practicing and correcting your mistakes. After you’ve improved, you can have more confidence moving forward.
